Father Stewart's Thought for the Week

Being with Jesus?
I was sitting in a Church yesterday; they were having exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. I must confess, I have always had a particularly soft spot for this devotion. For the simple reason, that some of my first experiences of having a real sense of the Loving presence of Jesus were during the silence of exposition. Just sitting, looking, listening, resting and talking to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. So simple, but so profound…being with Jesus. But what would non believers have made of what was happening in this Church, if they wandered in off the street?

I suspect they would think…’nothing’ is happening!!

Why?

Well they would have seen people wandering around; or whispering, or just chatting. They would probably have noticed the MONSTRANCE; their eyes drawn to the candles lit on either side. I suspect though, they would have thought that the people were waiting for a service to begin, rather than something was actually happening!!

I remember someone once saying they found exposition difficult, because they didn’t know what to do or say.

The answer is simple…That’s Jesus! It’s that simple; that powerful, that profound!

It’s not a question of what would you do? How would you behave? What would you say if Jesus really did turn up in our parish tomorrow?
He’s there now!!
