A World Without Suffering…Wonderful
One of the great questions of faith and indeed life itself, is the question of suffering. Why? Why do we suffer? How can God allow suffering?
Many people who question God’s existence point to his apparent failure to “jump in and intervene when things go wrong.” But what would happen if he did this, what would life be like?

Much suffering happens as a result of mechanical failure. For example, metal fatigue in an aircraft part, or the failure of the mechanic to tighten a part. Should God jump in when these parts fail and the aircraft crashes? If he did people would be saved.

But…think it through. If God jumps in and saves us when we do something wrong or make a mistake, aircraft maintenance becomes a waste of time! Why should they bother – God will save them anyway!

Drink as much as you like and then drive. Why? It’s ok. God will perform a miracle and save you or anyone you might run over. Good news for parents. You can go out as much as you like – you don’t even need a babysitter – you really have the angels looking after them! In fact you don’t even have to feed them!

In fact in all realms of human activity we could do what we like – God will jump in and save us. In effect, in our imaginary world, where God is performing miracles to stop all human suffering, the law of cause and effect has been abolished, every human mistake will be corrected by God and his angels.

But a world without cause and effect?  No such thing as responsibility, science, or nationality… or free will or, therefore, love!!
