The Christian life is a mixture of the communal and the personal. The church facilitates both the communal and the personal through its public worship and through its teaching. Within the framework of weekly Sunday worship and the milestones in our spiritual life represented by the sacraments, we cultivate a personal relationship with Our Lord
Prayer [the raising of the heart and mind to God] can take many forms. It can be collective or individual, formal or spontaneous, it can consist of thoughts or words but equally it may take the form of quiet contemplation. Prayer can be inspired by spiritual reading especially in the scriptures and it can be nourished by meditation on the Word or the advice and experience of spiritual guides. In the end, it is about an encounter between two persons: one divine, the other His beloved creation.
